First Two Weeks...

Madyson's first two weeks have been eventful.  She has gone on her first walk around the neighborhood and got a great look over I-5 and The Del Mar fairgrounds.

We all had our first walk around Mission Bay and she had her first trip to the zoo where daddy took her first elephant photo!  =)

During the first two weeks she also slept most of the time only to wake every 2 1/2 to 3 hours to eat.  Now that we have hit the two week mark, it seems as though she has her days and nights mixed up and may have hit a growth spurt a tad early.  So, she is eating a little more frequently and is wide awake around 9-11pm and 2-4am.  Today we are working toward getting her days and nights switched and she is doing well.  She has been up for about 2-3 hours, she has eaten, been bathed, had daddy time and is now settling down for a nap.  She is generally content unless she is hungry or needs to be changed, which I am thankful for.  I love watching her and she has already changed so much!  Mom and Stephanie have been a tremendous help; Steph left a couple of days ago (Punkin' Butt already misses her) and Mom leaves in a couple of days... I am sad to see them leave as I love seeing and being around family, but more family to arrive shortly as Marlene and Rusty will be out soon and we will see everyone again around Christmas time!

A new beginning...

On 11 Feb, around 9pm or so, we were sure Madyson was going to make her debut. CXs were about 2-3 minutes apart and steadily becoming stronger so we went to the hospital as directed only to find I had not progressed and was still only 3 cm dilated. We were told I could walk for two hours and then be rechecked to see if I progressed then, so we decided to try it. After two hours of circling the hospital, the doctor rechecked me and I was at exactly the same point I was before. Needless to say, I was very disheartened and ready to meet my little girl, but we were sent home. At around 4am on 12 Feb I woke up to some serious pain. I wanted to hold off as long as I could to ensure everyone would get enough sleep but by 5:30am the pain was unbearable and I needed to get to the hospital... NOW! Contractions were 1-2 minutes apart on the drive to the hospital and at this point, I now had pain in my lower back. (Let me note here that I had every intention to try and have a natural birth with no drugs) Nevertheless, at this point all I wanted was drugs to make the pain go away!

Long story short, we got to the hospital, I progressed far enough now that they admitted me and about eight hours later little Madyson had arrived to two very proud and emotional parents with the help of one very amazing nurse!

Grandma B and Auntie Steph were there to meet little Madyson and both could not have been any happier. We thought Steph would not make it in time but she got into town on the 8th of Feb and was able to spend some time with us before Madyson got here.

It has now been almost a week since Madyson was born and she has already changed so much. When she was first born, her cute little nose was smooshed and her left foot has an inversion. After the orthopedic doctors checked her, we were assured everything would fix it on its own and we affectionately call her "Little Crooked Foot", Kevin says it is her Indian name. Her nose is slowly correcting itself, but her foot looks 100 times better than before.

This week Madyson has gone on her first stroll around the neighborhood, her first bath, her first phot shoot with Auntie Steph and her first trip to the beach! We are thinking about going to the zoo tomorrow, as it seems the fresh air is really helping her sleep.  As of now, it is easy to tell when something is wrong. She is only fussy when she is hungry or needs changing... or while you are changing her. Otherwise, she is either asleep or very alert and happy to have tummy time with Daddy.

Madyson also has her very own bodyguard; Shaye!
