Hiking at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
Kevin, Shaye, Madyson and I all got bundled up and headed out for a hike on 17 April. Shaye was all ready to go with his backpack, filled with everything he would need; water and some bags for doggie messes. The drive wasn't bad, it was about an hour to get out there. Once there we pulled up to the ranger shack and they informed us that one of the trails, while still open, would be heavily trafficked as they were in the middle of a search and rescue mission for a man that had disappeared the night prior. Obviously we hoped he was okay and that they find him. We pulled into the parking lot and as we were getting our things together to set off a little police helicopter flew overhead and landed in a near by field. He was picking up rescue workings and taking them to the top of Stonewall Peak where the man went missing. We set off from the parking lot and headed to the base of the trail to Steonwall Peak only to realize we could not take Shaye on that specific trail. so we headed back to the Ranger shack and asked if there were any trails that we could take Shaye on and luckily there was. A small trail across the street. It was more like a paved path/trail but we were there and it was a nice day. So we headed on our way. Every now and then we would turn around and see the little helicopter flying to and from the peak. At one point a Huey actually came over and was circling over a specfic area. After awhile we noticed the Huey was gone and the little helo flying off. We figured they had found the guy (and later found out that they had, he had fallen off a 200 ft cliff and they now believe it may have been a suicide). Anyhow, as we continued to hike the trail we came across a log bench and took a little rest. Here are a few photos from our hike and a random video:

A tough start to the week...
Madyson has now been in daycare for about 3 weeks. I still do not like dropping her off and having to say goodbye, but I am comforted by the people I leave her with because I know they do care about her and for her needs while I am at work. That said, when my phone rang yesterday and I saw that daycare was calling, I immediately think the worst. As soon as I pick up the phone the director tells me that Madyson is fine... Whew! Now I am wondering what paperwork I forgot to do or if I left enough food for the day. She then begins to tell me that something happened... Apparently one of the teachers was trying to catch one of the other children from face planting into a table and in the process "stepped on" Madyson (before you freak out like I did, she just grazed her and didn't step on her with her full weight). I guess her heal grazed Madyson's leg/knee enough that it left a small pink spot but really nothing big. I hang up the phone and leave work, because even though they say she seems fine, I want to be there and see for myself. I get there, chat with the director and then go into the infant room and see Madyson sleeping in the arms of the teacher who has obviously been crying and has not put Madyson down since the incident. I go over and look at Madyson's leg and sure enough it's just pink and she seems content sleeping, she has even had a bottle after the fact. I move her leg and no crying or cringing. (I think we're good, I am sure there will be more injuries throughout her life) The teacher apologizes to me and begins crying again. =( (I can tell she feels really bad about what happened). I was upset when I was first told about it, but I know things happen. Thankfully 1) she is okay (although we have a doctor's appointment tomorrow (today) and I will have her checked out) 2)the other child is okay. I am sure a head injury would have been much worse. 3) she didn't step on any other part of her (i.e. her head or stomach) and 4) babies are extremely resilent. The director ask if I will call them after our appoitnment to see how Madyson is doing. After getting home Madyson seemed fine. Her night was much the same as every other night and we are now on a trend of her sleeping about 5 hours straight after bed time and then 3 hours each subsequent time. I am not complaining and consider that sleeping through the night as she is only 2 months old. Plus, she soothes herself to sleep so I think we're doing ood thus far! This morning Madyson, Kevin and I went to the doctor's for her 2 month check-up. First, the nurse takes her measurements and weights her: She is in the 50 percentile of Height and Weight (PERFECT the doctor said; her words =) ) And she is apparently smart because her head is in the 75 percentile. =) She is also almost 11 lbs and measures in at 22 1/2 inches long! She's growing, YEA! The nurse then goes over the vaccines Madyson will be getting today after the Doc checks her out. The Doc comes in and looks Madyson over and says her leg is fine, it does have a small eraser sized bruise but that is about the extent of it. The Doc checks her ears, nose, mouth; everything looks good, so we ask the Doc some questions (she's great!) she leaves and the nurse comes back in and has Madyson's 2 month vaccines ready to go (Kevin is holding her while she gets her shots) Madyson at this point has her paci in her mouth and in completely content, nurse comes over, wipes the first leg and quickly gives her her first vaccine (delayed reaction, paci falls out of her mouth and screams and red face begin), the nurse quickly does the second vaccine and Madyson continues to wail... awwwee my poor baby. Nurse tells us to take our time and leaves the office. kevin stands up with madyson and begins bouncing her to calm her and surprisingly it helps, she stops screaming! Madyson is calming down. I take her and give her her paci and she is still a little upset but not crying. As we are leaving the building she is actually falling asleep (in Kevin's arms again). On the way home, I call the daycare director and let her know Madyson is fine... she is happy to hear it and apparently the teachers had been asking all morning so I am sure they will be happy too (I am pretty sure no one will be "stepping" on Madyson again! I also get a text from work that says don't come in (fine by me!) Two mnoths until hernext appointment and more vaccines; they didn't seem to be as bad as I thought they would be. She was a little fussy after we got home and I gave her some infant tylenol and she is now happily sleeping in her swing. I don't dare move her! Every now and then I hear a little wimper. *sigh* Is it August yet?Sunday, April 11, 2010
Our week!
Madyson has a few new additions; a play gym, a cool wooden mobile to look at while she soothes herself to sleep or talk to about her day, and a black/red crib mirror for stimulation and to look at herself. Oh and we also got a fun little CD for her to listen to and for me to sing to... I have most of the lyrics already memorized! Seriously, I really like it! The Corner Grocery Store by Raffi:

She finds the butterflies on the mobile very funny and they have some very deep conversations. =)
This week has been great! Madyson is spending more time awake at daycare and is getting a lot of attention from all of the caregivers... including ones that work in other classrooms!
This is Madyson with Miss Christy who is about to read her a book.
Just a funny picture!

Fernando loved her new outfit:

He wouldn't let Miss Bernice put her back in her sleep sack because it would have covered up her cute outfit he said. Because Madyson has been awake more at daycare she seems to be sleeping better at night. Most nights this week she will sleep 4-6 hours straight for the first part of the night. After that it is back to 3 hours. I look forward to longer stints of sleep, but at two months old, I am not complaing! Also this week, Kevin had off Friday so he and Madyson spent the whole day together by themselves and had a great time! They played on the play gym, did a little tummy time and even went for a walk with Shaye Saturday we did a little shopping at the outdoor mall and we got a new laptop for Kevin to use for school... so far he loves it! It's a Macbook Pro and works so much better than the HP.! Today we ran a few errands out in town; stopped by Target, went to PetSmart, had lunch at Pei Wei and Skyped with Marlene and Rusty and Mom, and our new coffee table arrived. Other than that, not much going on. Oh, and we watched The Masters of course! Hoping Mickelson takes it!
A little video of Madyson with her play gym!
Highlight this week is shots! We are not looking to them; Madyson is set to get two of them on Wednesday! She got one shot at her one month appointment and that was no fun, I can't imagine how she is going to react with two! Hopefully it won't be too bad but more than getting the shots, I hope she isn't too uncomfortable the rest of the day afterwards. We'll keep you posted on how that goes.
